Demosistō
Demosistō ( Chinese 香港 眾志 - stand for the people ) was a political party in Hong Kong .
As an organization of the pro-democracy camp , it emerged from the student movement Scholarism and the 2014 protests in Hong Kong on April 10, 2016. In the 2016 elections to the Hong Kong Legislative Council , Demosistō received a seat.
Program
Demosistō is in opposition to the head of government of the Chinese special administrative region in Hong Kong, Carrie Lam . The party's general secretary from the beginning of 2016 to June 2020 was Joshua Wong , who was seen internationally as a champion of the protests in Hong Kong 2019 . As such he spoke u. a. with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and members of the United States Congress .
Resignations and dissolution June 2020
Wong, Nathan Law and Agnes Chow announced their resignation from the party on June 30, 2020 after the National Security Protection Act in Hong Kong was passed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and political persecution became more likely. On the same day, the party as a whole announced its immediate dissolution.
