Dempo Sports Club is an Indian football club in Goa . He currently plays in the highest Indian soccer league, the I-League .

history

It was founded in 1961 under the name Clube Desportivo de Bicholim . In 1966 it was renamed after the main sponsor Dempo-Souza . After another renaming in 1968, the association was given its current name. Along with Salgaocar Sports Club and Sporting Clube de Goa , it is one of the most popular clubs in Goa. In 2005 he was able to get the Indian double and won both the championship and the cup final . Dempo also won the last championship of the old league format in the National Football League , as well as the first championship of the new I-League a year later . With the 2007/08 championship, the club took part in qualifying for the 2009 AFC Champions League . Against Al-Sharjah , however, they had no chance with 0: 3 and were downgraded to the AFC Cup .
