Durand Cup
The Durand Cup is an Indian soccer tournament competition. The competition was launched in 1888. The Durand Cup was founded by Mortimer Durand , an officer of the Royal Scots Fusiliers in Shimla in 1888.
The Royal Scots Fusiliers won the first cup against the Highland Light Infantry with 2-1 goals.
From 1940 the tournament was held in Delhi . After India's independence, the Durand Cup was mostly won by teams from the Bengali metropolis of Calcutta . The record winners are city rivals Mohun Bagan AC and East Bengal Club , each of whom has won the Durand Cup 16 times.
In 1997 a club from South India won the Cup for the first time with FC Kochin and in 1998 and 2002 Mahindra United from Mumbai secured the title. In 1999 and 2003 Salgaocar Sports Club from Goa won the Durand Cup.
