I want to praise the gentlemen is a spiritual song with a text by Maria Luise Thurmair and a melody by Melchior Teschner . It can be found in the Gotteslob as well as in the regional Bavaria / Thuringia section of the Evangelical Hymnal .

history

Maria Luise Thurmair wrote the three eight-line stanzas in 1954 as a revision of the Magnificat to the melody by Melchior Teschner. They were revised by her in 1972 for the praise of God in 1975 and thus also included in the 2013 praise of God.

The melody was written by Teschner in 1613 for the text Valet I will give you . It is also used for many other song lyrics.
