Maria Luise Thurmair b. Mumelter (born September 27, 1912 in Bozen ( South Tyrol ), † October 24, 2005 in Germering near Munich ) was a Catholic theologian, writer and hymn poet.

Life

Maria Luise Thurmair's father was Ernst Mumelter, the last Austrian district captain in Bozen. Political pressure forced the family to move to Innsbruck . There she passed her high school diploma, studied philosophy, German and history, but also attended lectures in art history and theology, including lectures on liturgy from Josef Andreas Jungmann SJ . With a thesis on Irene Angelina , she was a PhD . In 1941 she married the Munich poet Georg Thurmair (1909–1984). The couple had six children and had lived in Munich since 1956 . She died on October 24, 2005 in Germering near Munich.

Maria Luise Thurmair, like her husband, excelled in the Catholic youth movement , especially in the liturgical movement . During the war years she began to work on the Innsbruck church prayer book Praise God . She was also involved in the design of several German diocesan prayer books and hymns. Later, the employees followed at Singing community , the hymn , the translation of monastic hymns and a number of books. With her family, she adhered to a community in which the oratorians and another priest celebrated masses in German early on and where "the community sang German hymns".

During the war, Love Talks in War , a lyrical dialogue between Georg and Maria Luise (new edition 1981 by Aventinus Verlag) appeared.

Above all, however, she has given extensive lectures on questions of faith, marriage, the church year , first communion and religious education; and since 1963 working on the praise of God , the prayer and hymn book of all German-speaking Catholic dioceses (except Switzerland and Liechtenstein). 25 songs can be found today in the trunk of the praise of God; in the 1975 edition there were 44. She wrote 38 lyrics. No other songwriter is represented in the praise of God as often as she. She was the only woman in the main commission for the preparation of the hymn and prayer book. Several of their songs have also been included in the Evangelical Hymnal (EG), in the main section these are the songs under the numbers 178.6, 178.7, 178.8 (Advent, Easter and Pentecost Kyrie), 227 (Thank you, Father, for eternal life), there are also other songs in many regional parts.

The Pope has awarded her the Order of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice .
