Antonius "Ton" Arnoldus Theodurus Maria van Trier (born February 7, 1926 in Oss , province of Noord-Brabant ; † November 26, 1983 in Eindhoven , province of Noord-Brabant) was a Dutch university professor and politician of the Christian Democratic Appèl (CDA) who was Rector of the Technical University of Eindhoven between 1968 and 1971 and Minister without Portfolio for Science Policy in Van Agt I's cabinet from 1979 to 1981 .

Life

Antonius "Ton" Arnoldus Theodurus Maria van Trier, son of an office worker, completed a degree in electrical engineering and taught from September 1957 to January 1, 1972 as a professor of electrical engineering at the Technical University of Eindhoven . At the same time he was the successor of Kees Posthumus from 1968 to 1971 rector of the Technical University of Eindhoven and temporarily chairman of the advisory board for science policy RAWB (Raad van Advies voor het Wetenschapsbeleid) .

On May 3, 1979, he replaced Leendert Ginjaar as Minister without Portfolio for Science Policy (Minister zonder portefeuille laden met wetenschapsbeleid) in the Van Agt I cabinet and held this office until September 11, 1981. He essentially continued the policy of his predecessor and submitted the publication of the Innovatienota . After leaving the government, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen since November 1981 and head of the office of the Commission for Bibliography and Documentation COBIDOC (Commissie voor bibliografie en documentatie) since March 1, 1982 . Furthermore, he acted as chairman of the structural commission of the computer service industry from June 1982 and from January 1st until his death on November 26th 1983 as a member of the Scientific Council for Government Policy WRR (Wetenschappelijke Raad voor het Regeringsbeleid) .
