Denis Carayannis

Denis Carayannis (born May 5, 1918 in Rhodes , † after 1975 ) was a Greek diplomat.

Biographical data

In 1947 he joined the foreign service. From 1947 to 1951 he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens . From 1951 to 1952 he was consul in Chicago . In 1952 he was consul in New York City . From 1952 to 1958 he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens. From 1962 to 1964 he was Consul General in Paris. From 1964 to 1970 he headed the Department of Political Affairs for the Middle East and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1964 to 1965, 1968 and 1974 he was a delegate to the General Assembly of the United Nations . From 1971 to 1973 he was the Greek ambassador to Albania. During this time, in the wake of Richard Nixon's visit to China in 1972 , many Western governments established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China . Denis Carayannis signed a joint declaration for the Greek military dictatorship in Tirana. From July 27th 1974 to 1975 he was the permanent representative of the Greek government next to the UN headquarters . On September 8 and 10, 1975, he was sent to Istanbul for talks . In 1951 he married Hari K Veniselos.
