Denis J. O'Sullivan

Denis James O'Sullivan (* 5. March 1918 ; † 20th July 1987 ) was an Irish politician of Fine Gael .

Life

O'Sullivan, who was a merchant and auctioneer by profession , began his political career in 1948 when he ran for the first time as a candidate for the Fine Gael for the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) . After he was elected Member of Parliament ( Teachta Dála ) in 1951, he was a member of the House of Commons until his electoral defeat in 1965, initially for the constituency of Cork North and finally from 1961 to 1965 for Cork Mid .

Between June 1954 and March 1957 he was not only Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John A. Costello , but also to Defense Minister Seán Mac Eoin . At the same time he was during this time Parliamentary Director ( Government Chief Whip ) of the government faction.

After he had to resign from the House of Commons in 1965 because of the defeat in his constituency, he became a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) as a representative of industry and finance , but renounced a renewed candidacy in 1969 and then withdrew from political life.
