The Gabelsberger monument by Syrius Eberle

The Gabelsbergerdenkmal in Munich is a bronze sculpture by the German sculptor Syrius Eberle . It was built in 1890 on the occasion of the centenary of the birthday of Franz Xaver Gabelsberger (1789–1849), the inventor of a cursive shorthand system. It was cast by Ferdinand von Miller .

The monument shows Gabelsberger in a seated position on a stone plinth. The location is a square-like extension at the confluence of Barer Strasse and Ottostrasse in the Maxvorstadt district .

Due to an accident, Syrius Eberle was unable to complete the memorial in time. The actual 100th birthday of Gabelsberger was celebrated as part of the 40th Foundation Festival of the Central Stenographers Association with a wreath-laying ceremony at Gabelsberger's grave. In August 1890, the memorial was inaugurated with a large number of participants from the entire world of stenographers.

The monument is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.
