Depot II from Chotusice

The Custodian II of Chotusice (also hoard II from Chotusice ) is a hoard of Early Bronze Age Unetice culture of Chotusice in Středočeský kraj , Czech Republic . It dates to between 1800 and 1600 BC. The deposit is now in the Čáslav Museum .

Find history

The exact date the deposit was found is unknown. It was first mentioned in the museum files in 1940. Accordingly, it was discovered east of Chotusice behind the St. George's Chapel on the road to Žehušice . It was in a sand pit at a depth of 0.45 m. The site is on the slope of a terrace that stretches along the small river Brslenka .

The first depot was found in Chotusice as early as 1884, but it dates from the late Bronze Age . The Žehušice depot, which was also from the Late Bronze Age, was discovered just 1.5 km away in 1888 . Both sites are also on terraces along the Brslenka.

composition

The depot consists of three bronze objects : a massive oval ring, an ax and a chisel . The oval ring has a circular cross section. It has a length of 96 mm and a width of 70 mm on the outside and a length of 71 mm and a width of 60 mm on the inside. The edge ridge ax has a round neck. On the semicircular cutting edge, the beginnings of a faceting can be seen . Only a fragment of the chisel has survived. It has heels on the sides and an old break on the cutting edge.
