Nové Vráto depot

The Nové Vráto depot (also known as the Nové Vráto hoard ) is a depot find of the Early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Nové Vráto , a district of Budweis in Jihočeský kraj , Czech Republic . It dates between 2000 and 1800 BC. The preserved items from the depot are now in the South Bohemian Museum in Budweis.

Find history

The depot was discovered on September 26, 1964 north of the Hlinská street during the construction of the ČSAO automobile workshops. It lay at a depth of about 40-50 cm in clayey sand. The site was originally on a slight slope of a flat ridge surrounded by brook valleys. Three other Aunjetitz culture depots are known from the urban area of ​​Budweis: the Budweis depot , the Mladé depot and the Suché Vrbné depot .

composition

The depot originally consisted of 53 bronze eyelet neck rings . They were found in bundles or groups of five. They were probably originally tied up or stowed in bags. Remnants of a hemp cord and other textile remnants were still preserved. Only 49 complete and one fragment of the rings are preserved in the museum in Busweis, the remaining three copies have been lost. The rings obtained have a diameter between 148 mm and 177 mm and a weight between 129 g and 212 g. The total weight of the finds is 9.315 kg.
