Penrith deposit found
The Penrith Depot Find is a distributed deposit of silver penannular fibers found in Silverfield on Flusco Pike, on Newbiggin Moor, west of Penrith in Cumbria , England .
The largest of the so-called "thistle brooch " ( English Thistle brooch ) was discovered in 1785. One discovered in 1830 probably comes from there. In 1989 most of the objects were recovered by archaeologists in two groups close together. One group consisted of five Viking brooches with fragments of two others, the other consisted of more than 50 items, including bars, hacked silver (jewelry and crushed pieces of silver), coins and jewelry. It remains uncertain whether both group finds were filed at the same time, but it is assumed that this applies at least to the primers. It is believed that the fibulae, now in the British Museum in London, were deposited around 930 AD.
