The Affenstern is a children's book by Peter Abraham from 1985.

Because Carola Huflattich doesn't feel like writing a dictation, she quickly decides to fly to the moon in an old bathtub with her friends Willi Neuenhagen, Emmi Winter, Stefan Wedekind and Gudrun Wetterschlag. The unbelievable happens and the children really fly into space with the bathtub, but not to the moon, but to the monkey star. During their journey across the planet they meet the strangest forms of more or less intelligent monkey existences. You will meet monkeys, where the males are only allowed to do auxiliary work, since they are not full-fledged monkeys, after all they cannot have children. Elsewhere, different ape peoples fight each other because some have short tails, others long. You will encounter a city of uninhibited consumption, in which new goods are purchased every hour, while monkeys live in misery only a short distance away. You meet fanaticism, madness and rarely reason, which is mostly confused with madness. After many adventures, the children can return to earth.

The Affenstern , published in 1985, is Abraham's second book about the adventures of Carola Coltsfoot after Das Schulgespenst (1978). It addresses more serious issues and is an allegory of people intended for children . War and oppression, excessive consumption and fanatical religious practices are criticized. In 1997, the third book followed with the protagonist, Carolas Flucht nach Denkdirwas . The Affenstern was reissued in 1987 in a second and in 1988 in a third unchanged form. The fourth edition ( ISBN 3-358-02109-2 ) took place in 1994 and was slightly adapted for the new circumstances. For example, consumption has now become a supermarket . A total of 80,000 books were sold. All four editions were published by Kinderbuchverlag Berlin . The first three issues were provided with illustrations by Gertrud Zucker .
