The arc

The arch is a work of art on both sides of the border between Germany and the Netherlands between Nordhorn in Germany and Denekamp in the Netherlands near the former border crossing at Frendorferhaar. The sculpture is on both Dutch and German territory.

The sculpture, built in 1993, consists of an almost semicircular tubular steel arch and twelve trees. Six of the trees are planted in a semicircle at each foot of the arch. The diameter is approx. 15 meters. The Rammelbecke flows under the sculpture . The design and implementation come from the artist Johann Vrielmann (†) from Itterbeck . The material for the foundation and arch was sponsored by both German and Dutch companies. The work of Johann Vrielmann is part of the 140 km long sculpture path Kunstwege which leads from the Nordhorn in Lower Saxony along the Vechte to Zwolle in the Netherlands . In June 2000, kunstwegen was inaugurated by the Dutch Queen Beatrix .

The plaque on the arch reads in German and in Dutch:
