The Jungfrau Zeitung is a German-language newspaper that is published in the Bernese Oberland . It also appears as a header under the names Der Brienzer , Der Oberhasler and Echo von Grindelwald . Until the end of March 2020, the newspaper was published twice a week as a subscription print edition. In 2018 the circulation was 5917 according to the WEMF circulation bulletin, in the previous year the circulation was 6217. In the course of the economic difficulties during the corona crisis , the print edition was discontinued at the end of March 2020. Since then, the newspaper has been published daily as an e-paper that can be read free of charge on the newspaper's website.

In addition to the e-paper edition, all articles are also available online on the website, even at the time of the print edition. The publisher is the Medienhaus Gossweiler, founded in 1907. The company is now in the fourth generation. The headquarters and editorial office have been in Thun since February 2017.

Editorial concept

The newspaper concentrated on local news in the region until the end of March 2020, initially targeting all 80 communities in the Bernese Oberland. The content was fanned out to the classic areas of politics, economy, culture, society and sport. Since the switch to the e-paper edition, national, Swiss-wide and international topics have also been dealt with more and more.

The newspaper adopted the principle of “online first” very early on and made all content available on the website. With a self-developed publication tool, the editorial team can publish news at short notice. Around 50,000 page queries are registered every day. The online platform is open to all interested parties free of charge and also serves as a newspaper archive.

The newspaper is financed purely through advertising income. She does not receive any support contributions, neither from the federal government nor from the canton. This makes the Jungfrau Zeitung one of the few independent and independent media companies in Switzerland.

Virgin Newspaper Scoreboard

From April 2017 to the end of March 2020, the same publisher as the Jungfrau Zeitung published a weekly newspaper, initially under the name “Anzeiger Berner Oberland”. In January 2019 it was renamed "Jungfrau Zeitung Anzeiger". The gazette was distributed free of charge to all 110,000 households in the Bernese Oberland. In addition to job advertisements, real estate and other advertisements, it also contained paid publicity reports . The advertising and publicity reports are also integrated in the Jungfrau Zeitung's online platform. The Jungfrau Zeitung Anzeiger was the publication with the highest circulation in the canton of Bern. At the end of March 2020, the Jungfrau Zeitung Anzeiger was discontinued as an independent edition in the wake of the economic difficulties during the corona crisis. After that, the Anzeiger appeared as an e-paper in the Thursday edition of the Jungfrau Zeitung until July 9, 2020.
