The district (artists' association Lake Constance area)
The circle was an international artists' association whose members - writers, painters and sculptors - lived and worked in the area around Lake Constance .
organization
The group Der Kreis was founded on December 18th (or 19th) 1925 by twelve like-minded artists and existed until 1937. The writer Norbert Jacques from Schlachters was one of the driving forces behind the establishment. He formulated the goals as follows: "The cultivation of the fine arts, in the awareness of the old ethnic and cultural unity of the western Upper German cultural area without considering the existing political national borders, state-political and intolerant ethnic goals are excluded [...]" and also took over its chairmanship.
When it became impossible for the artists' association to come together for exhibitions across national borders, its dissolution in 1937 was inevitable.
The artist group consisted of about 40 members:
- From Vorarlberg : the sculptor Albert Bechtold and the painters Oswald Baer , Stephanie Hollenstein , Alois Mennel , Rudolf Wacker and Fritz Krcal .
- From the German areas around Lake Constance: the art historian and painter Kurt Badt , the writer Norbert Jacques , the painters Karl Einhart , Herbert Jaegerhuber , Hans Purrmann , Otto Tillkes , Adolf Hildenbrand , Waldemar Flaig , Conrad Felixmüller , and the graphic artist Kasia von Szadurska .
- From Switzerland: The painters Adolf Dietrich , Heinrich Herzig , Theo Glinz and August Wanner .
