Albert Bechtold (born October 5, 1885 in Bregenz , † July 23, 1965 in Schwarzach ) was an Austrian sculptor.

Life

Albert Bechtold came on October 5, 1885 as the eldest of seven children of Gottfried Bechtold and his wife Theresia born. Salzgeber in Bregenz to the world. From 1900 to 1903 he completed his stonemason training in his father's company and at the same time attended the municipal trade school in Munich. This was followed by further training at the stone processing school in Laas and again at the municipal trade school in Munich. From 1906 Albert Bechtold studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna .

During the First World War , Bechtold served as Kaiserjäger on the Italian front. In August 1917 he married Marianne Thum from South Tyrol.

From the end of the war, Bechtold lived and worked in Bregenz. He designed numerous drafts for war memorials and also implemented some of them himself. From 1924, his work was increasingly influenced by Cubism . From 1934 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but was deposed in 1938 by the provincial leadership of the NSDAP as acting management of the university, which consisted of Ferdinand Andri , Wilhelm Dachauer and Alexander Popp .

In 1939 Bechtold moved to Schwarzach. During and after the Second World War, he was denied major artistic or economic success. After a stroke on March 1, 1954, he was paralyzed on one side. Albert Bechtold died in Schwarzach on July 23, 1965.
