The fool of his heart is an Austrian silent film drama by Rudolf Stiassny from 1919 with Ferdinand Onno in the title role.
action
One night the Viennese Lothar von Hansen is on his way home from a carousing party with friends when he sees a beggar with her daughter on the steps of the Karlskirche. The young woman is very pretty, and Lothar's fate begins to move. Her name is Priska, and the wealthy man takes the two of them home with him, a splendid city palace. Priska soon realizes how much Lothar ensnares her and is blinded by the wealth and splendor that surrounds the generous patron. The plan matures in her to take advantage of all of this for herself and her daughter. Gratitude for Lothar's generosity wanes, and Priska soon becomes involved with Lothar's best friend, Baron Axel.
To keep her, Lothar begins to shower his queen of hearts with gifts and thus falls into debt. He even taps into his own mother's pension. When he also loses in the card game against Baron Axel, his - now former - prosperity is over. Having become a beggar through Priska and thrown out of his own domicile by Axel, Lothar finally commits an act of desperation: one night he breaks into the house to steal the jewelry that he had once given Priska. His ex-lover surprises him and Axel rushes over, but is knocked down by Lothar. The punishment follows immediately, and Lothar von Hansen has to serve several years in prison.
Back in freedom, his first path leads him back to the steps of the Karlskirche, where his great misfortune began. There he sinks, emotionally deeply affected, in himself. He has become the fool of his love! A fine car is passing by and a woman is throwing some handouts to the poor devil. Priska and Baron Axel sit in the vehicle.
