The key to Rebecca

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Key to Rebecca (Original: The Key to Rebecca ) is a novel by the English writer Ken Follett published by Gustav-Lübbe-Verlag in 1982 and was the third bestseller in a row after Die Nadel und Dreifach . Only then did Ken Follett himself begin to believe in his success as a writer. The Key to Rebecca was filmed for television in 1985 under the direction of David Hemmings as Secret Code: Rebecca .

content

The novel is set in North Africa in 1942. The German spy Wolff, stationed in Cairo , has the task of scouting out the English plans and conveying them to the German army under Rommel in order to prepare the way for the Wehrmacht to reach Cairo.

Emergence

While researching the book Die Nadel , Follett came across the true story of a spy ring in Cairo that in 1942 used an encryption code based on the novel Rebecca (in the first German translation: Rebekka ) by Daphne du Maurier . In the book, too, the counterintelligence tries to crack this “Rebekka Code”.

criticism

"An authentic espionage case, a rapid course of action and an unusual erotic love triangle result in a novel of dramatic density."
