At a Scottish biotechnology company , Oxenford Medical, an employee dies on Christmas Eve of the Madoba-2 virus , a dangerous variant of Ebola with a 100% death rate. The employee smuggled an infected rabbit through the security gates of the BSL-4 high security laboratory. The company's security officer , main character Toni Gallo, is under pressure, but with luck and skill can reassure the public and prove that the employee has not infected any other people with the virus.

At the same time, Kit Oxenford, the son of the company's boss Professor Stanley Oxenford, plans to steal the currently developed serum from BSL4, where it will be tested. He has £ 250,000 in gambling debt and is urged by his criminal creditors to pay off the debt with the theft. He wrote the security software for his father's company himself and plans to use this insider knowledge to overcome all security barriers.

After Kit had already stolen money from the company in the past with rebooking tricks, also for his gambling addiction , the then new security officer Gallo caught on to him and Professor Oxenford reluctantly released his son from the company. With the coup, Kit also wants to get revenge on his father and on Gallo. After the incident, however, he wants to postpone his project, as there is now increased attention and additional security measures have been installed. His creditors decide against it, however, the coup should rise as planned in the night of December 25th. Kit is almost drowned by the ultra-brutal Daisy, daughter of the believer, to make this clear to him again.

At his family's Christmas party, Kit steals his father's access badge, replaces the fingerprint data on it with his own, and hijacks the telephone system via remote maintenance access . He paralyzes all the devices, he only redirects the switchboard to his cell phone and pretends to be Scottish Telecom, which looks after the system and, in such a case, is called for emergency repairs. Kit wants to pretend to be a maintenance team with the criminals and thus penetrate. At the same time, the alarm system is no longer connected to the local police, and the guards cannot contact them either.

Gallo is also present at the beginning of the Christmas party at the Oxenfords to discuss the morning incident with the company boss and to watch the press reports. There is a deep affection between the widowed professor and Gallo, but this is suppressed by both for various reasons. After the meeting, Gallo drives home and the wintry weather begins to turn into a blizzard. Her planned vacation falls through because, as a substitute for her slightly deranged sister, she unexpectedly has to look after her demented mother over Christmas.

While Gallo is driving home with her mother, she calls the security guards to check. Kit is already disguised as a telephone worker and can no longer stop the call. Despite the adverse road conditions, Gallo decides to take her mother to the company building, known as the "Kremlin". While she is fighting her way through the snowstorm, the disguised Kit and his criminal companion penetrate to BSL4. They are discovered when the high-security wing is opened, but they can overwhelm the security forces.

At last, when he arrived at his destination, the refrigerated safe with viruses and serums, Kit had a surprise. His buddies don't want the serum, they want the highly dangerous Madoba-2 virus. They fill the virus cans into a perfume atomizer, ready to use for a terrorist attack, and leave the Kremlin just in time for Gallo to arrive, held up by the snowstorm and an accident. The robbers do not get very far in the worsening weather conditions and finally go to the Oxenford family home. Kit wants to steal his father's jeep unobserved, but it is not there because the two housekeepers have borrowed it because their own car is not designed for this adverse weather. You enter the house and Kit pretends to be a stuck snowstorm victim. However, the deception is soon exposed and the criminals begin to overwhelm Kit's family. Kit does not intervene and later takes the side of his criminal accomplices.

Gallo can find the first getaway car by calling the various objects on the escape route, such as a phone call from the laboratory. B. a golf course and also the motel where the car was parked, and leaves. On the way, she stops to teach Professor Oxenford. Kit receives them and tries to get rid of them first. However, she realizes something is wrong and escapes before she can be overwhelmed.
