The jump over the shadow (op. 17) is a comic opera in 3 acts and 10 pictures by Ernst Krenek and was premiered on June 9, 1924 under the direction of Ludwig Rottenberg in a production by Walther Brügmann in the Frankfurt Opera House . In retrospect, it is seen as a milestone in the development and establishment of jazz opera . Krenek himself saw it as a preliminary study for his main work Jonny plays on . Krenek uses a collage technique as an essential stylistic device .
