The modern state - Journal for Public Policy, Law and Management ( dms ) is a German interdisciplinary specialist journal . The contributions come from the fields of politics, law, economics and administrative sciences and deal primarily with changes in public tasks and the state's ability to steer. All articles are subject to peer review .
history
The modern state emerged from the 2004 to 2009 research initiative The State in Change at Leibniz Universität Hannover . The first issue of the magazine appeared in 2008 under the title Bureaucracy in Criticism .
content
The journal is interdisciplinary and combines articles from the fields of politics, law, economics and administration. Furthermore, essays from the fields of business and finance as well as organizational sociology and public management are considered. The focus is always on the change in the definition and fulfillment of public tasks, the national control ability and supranationalization as well as the implementation and evaluation of public programs. In doing so, dms primarily addresses science as well as management in administration and companies.
The modern state is divided into several areas. In addition to the main articles and treatises, the various editions also include articles on the research agenda as well as essays and literature reports. The language of the essays is mostly German, with original contributions in English. The authorship consists mainly of scientists from the respective subject areas.
Frequency of publication and publisher
The modern state appears every two years in June and December. The contributions can also be downloaded from the website for a fee. There is also a special issue from 2013 entitled Knowledge and Expertise in Politics and Administration . The magazine is published by Barbara Budrich Verlag, based in Leverkusen.
The managing editor since May 2011 has been Marian Döhler , who succeeded Bernhard Blanke . Sylvia Veit and Thurid Hustedt have been managing editors of the magazine since 2018 . The international advisory board includes representatives from the University of Oxford , the University of Oslo , the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux and the University of St. Gallen .
