The vilder foter is the title of a Yiddish silent film from Tsarist Poland from 1911. Andrzej Marek realized it for the Warsaw film producer Mordka Towbin based on a play by Zalmen Libin and a script he had worked out with him . The main roles were played by Herman Sieracki and Zina Goldsztejn.

The farmer Zachar lives with his family in a Jewish shtetl . He has promised his beautiful daughter Rachel against her will to his rich but no longer young neighbor for marriage. Rachel, however, loves someone else. When she has a child, the father, mad with disappointment, throws it into the pond. Rachel passes in despair, and the cruel father, mindful of his crime, falls from a rock into the abyss.

The film that Stanisław Sebel shot was a production by the company Kantor Zjednoczonych Kinematografów Sila ( German strength). It had an original length of 1200 meters on 4 files; the copy on loan in the USA was only 800 meters long. In Poland, where the premiere took place on November 12, 1911, the film was shown under the title Okrutny ojciec , in the USA as The Harsh Father .
