Brauneck's was a medieval author . He is only known by naming other authors. His work has not survived.

Author and work

We only know the author Der von Brauneck from a mention in Hugo von Trimberg 's 'Renner' . He names him among other singers of the 13th century.

Even Friedrich von Sunnenburg calls him in a verse in praise of Rudolf von Habsburg . He calls him the Brûnecker . It is not clear whether both Hugo von Trimberg and Friedrich von Sunnenburg mean the same author.

His work has not been preserved.

Localization attempts

So far, the following have been discussed as possible "home":

  1. Bruneck in Franconia near Ansbach
  2. Bruneck Castle in Aargau near Mellingen
  3. Bruneck in Pustertal ( South Tyrol ) on the Rienz

Haupt (1845) and Burdach (1928) campaigned for the Franconian von Brauneck family. The gender is a side line of those of Hohenlohe . For the first time the family is documented with Konrad von Brauneck in 1245, he is commonly accepted as an author. A Gottfried von Brauneck is documented between 1264 and 1274.
