The White Wolf is a book for young people by the Austrian author Käthe Recheis from 1982 . It was awarded the Vienna Youth Book Prize in 1983 and the Austrian Children's and Youth Book Prize in 1983/84 .

While walking, Thomas discovers a white wolf that disappears in the forest. Fascinated, he follows him - and finds himself in a different reality. Two races that have become hostile to one another live there: the people of the dark people and the people of Aran. Thomas is expected by the girl Onari, who has brought him over to fulfill an age-old prophecy with him and a child from Aran that will finally bring the two peoples together again.

The white wolf was illustrated by Stuart Matthews and was published by Herder-Verlag in 1982 . The 13th, newly designed edition of the book was published in 2003 by Kerle bei Herder , the paperback editions were published by dtv junior .

The book has also been translated into Dutch and Danish.
