Derby Fort is the ruin of a fort at the eastern end of St Michael's Isle , which is also called Fort Island because of the fort , a small island near Derbyhaven in the south of the Isle of Man .

The fort was built in 1645 during the English Civil War at the behest of James Stanley, 7th Earl of Derby and Lord of Mann . It was supposed to protect the then heavily frequented port of Derbyhaven.
