Derek Rowen (born May 13, 1959 in Dublin ), known under the artist pseudonym "Guggi" , is a contemporary Irish artist.

Derek Rowen was born in Dublin, the second of ten children to the Rowen family.

Guggi made friends with Paul Hewson , a neighborhood child from the same street , while he was still in elementary school . He owes his nickname "Bono Vox of O'Connell Street" to. Even Gavin Friday belonged to friends trio that later the clique called "Lypton Village" was formed, and from the addition of the post-punk band " Virgin Prunes " and " U2 " emerged.

Disappointed in the music industry and after some quarrels within the band, Guggi left the “Virgin Prunes” in 1984 to pursue his artistic passion: minimalist painting , whereby he preferred depicting vessels. Most of the time he taught himself how to paint and draw, because although he showed talent as a child, his teachers didn’t like his style very much.

His work has been shown in various exhibitions, including the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York City , the Osborne Samuel Gallery in London and the Solomon Gallery in Dublin, where he lives with his wife Sibylle and their five sons.
