Derk Haank
Derk J. Haank (* 1953 in Terborg , Netherlands ) is a Dutch publishing manager. From 1998 to 2004 he was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Dutch publisher Elsevier , and since 2004 he has been CEO of Springer Science + Business Media .
Life
Haank studied business administration at the Free University of Amsterdam , where he also worked as a research assistant from 1978 to 1986. In 1986 he switched to the publishing business: he worked for various European subsidiaries of Elsevier Science in Oxford and London, and from 1991 he was CEO of "Misset", the B-to-B division of Elsevier. From 1998 he was CEO of Elsevier Science and a member of the board of the parent company Reed Elsevier . Since February 2004 he has been CEO of Springer Science + Business Media.
