Derrick Kellier

Derrick Flavius ​​Kellier (born May 27, 1947 in St. James ) is a Jamaican politician of the People's National Party (PNP). He was from March 2006 to September 2007 and again since January 6, 2012 Jamaican Minister of Labor and Social Security (Minister of Labor and Social Security) , in October 2014 for agriculture (Agriculture) .

Life

Kellier attended Roehampton Primary School in St. James and then went to Calabar High School. He then worked in agriculture and as an entrepreneur. He was intermittently chairman of the Youth Action Movement, president of the National Union of Young Farmers and chairman of the PNP youth organization.

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in the Southern St. James constituency in February 1989 and was also able to win the constituency for the PNP in the 1993, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2011 elections. From 1989 to 1995 Kellier worked as a parliamentary secretary in various ministries. He then served as Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister and from October 2002 in the Ministry of National Security.

When Portia Simpson Miller became Prime Minister on March 30, 2006, she appointed Kellier to her cabinet a day later as Minister of Labor and Social Security. He stayed in office until the PNP went into opposition after its election defeat in September 2007. After the PNP won the December 29, 2011 elections and returned to power, Prime Minister Simpson Miller reappointed him as Minister of Labor and Social Security. He was sworn in as minister on January 6, 2012. Since October he has also been responsible as Minister for Agriculture.

Kellier is married and has four children.
