Dervla Kirwan (born October 24, 1971 in Churchtown , Dublin ) is an Irish actress who is best known for television roles.

Life

Dervla Kirwan was born in 1971 to an insurance agent and a teacher in Churchtown, a district in the south of Dublin. In 1991 she had her breakthrough as Bernadette Kennedy in the series A Time to Dance . Further roles in various series and television films followed. In 1993 she was hired for the role of Phoebe Bamford in the series "Goodnight Sweetheart" before she was offered in 1996 to play in the series Ballykissangel . Here she took on the role of the pub owner Assumpta Fitzgerald.

In 1999 she played the lead female role in Michael Winterbottom's comedy With or without you opposite Christopher Eccleston. She was also featured in Italian Seduction - School for Seduction . She also plays Claire Maxwell in 55 Degrees North , a British crime series. Kirwan's duet with Dustin the Turkey , a talking doll in the children's program on Radio Telefís Éireann, is also known . She sang Fairytale of New York with him . Your advertising campaign for the British retail company Marks & Spencer , launched in September 2005, was a great success and resulted in increased sales for the company.

While filming Ballykissangel, Kirwan became engaged to Stephen Tompkinson , at whose side she starred on the series. However, the engagement was later broken off. Kirwan is now in a relationship with actor Rupert Penry-Jones . The two have two children.
