Desquamation (geology)
Desquamation ( synonym : ( flaking ) scaling , scale formation ) describes in geology the detachment of shell rock plates from rock walls .
Flaking is a process of shredding close to the surface, which usually takes place due to exposure to sunlight ( insolation ) and large temperature differences . Therefore it is often found in dry ( arid ) climates . However, flaking is also related to chemical processes.
