Dessau is approximately 11 miles northeast of Austin in Travis County , Texas .
history
The city is named after the city of Dessau in Germany.
A post office was in operation from 1886 to 1890 and from 1897 to 1901. Dessau had a school with 40 students in 1907. The school merged with the one in Pflugerville in 1920 .
Population development
In the late 1890s, about 30 people lived in Dessau. After a decline in the 1930s, the population rose to 50 in the late 1940s.

Dessau is now part of Travis County , which also includes the Texas capital Austin. The community area consists largely of steppe and "forest". The place belongs to the urban area of Pflugerville and is de facto a district of Pflugerville .
