The Dessau Wallwitzhafen station was a passenger station between Dessau and Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt . It gained its importance through the connection to Wallwitzhafen . With the decline of this industrial port in the late 1960s, it lost its importance. The station has not been served since 1990.

investment

It is a through station laid out in a north-south direction, the station building of which, together with the former signal box, is located west of the main line. The railway line runs on a dam in this area. The former 230 m long platforms no longer exist. The signal box Wf formerly controlled three passenger tracks and a siding, it last functioned as a block post until 2010 .

history

The station would open as "Wallwitzhafen" station at the latest in 1861, initially with 994 passengers per year in 1871, and by 1890/91 there were 25,321 passengers. In 1914 there were even suburban trains on the route Roßlau (Elbe) - Wallwitzhafen - Dessau Hbf - Dessau -Alten with two pairs of trains as a worker train to the Junkers factories . In 1944 the station was given the addition "Dessau". At that time the station became its own office. In 1963 the station was subordinated to the Dessau Hbf. The siding to the port was in operation until 1972.

Due to the fact that the port area was not in use, the station was classified by the Reich Railway Directorate in Halle from 1973 onwards as a stop combined with a demand branch. The through tracks 1 and 2 were preserved. The tips of track 3 and siding 4 were preserved to supply the signal box with coal. One wrong-way turnout was retained, and a second was later installed. Finally, the track stumps were dismantled and the remnants removed during the upgrading in 1987 and 1997. The platform from track 2 was also built back by 1997. The last remains disappeared in 2009. In 1985 the light signals were installed. As part of the construction of the new Mulde crossing by 2010, the main line was swiveled 22 meters to the north-east, away from the buildings.

On September 5, 2010, the Wallwitzhafen block site was decommissioned. On December 5, 2010, the Dessau electronic interlocking was put into operation on the replacement line. The railway line was swiveled 22 meters away from the station building. An association is currently renovating the ailing reception building and the signal box.

Cargo handling

In 1890, 750,000 t of goods were delivered by rail and 140,000 t were returned. During the heyday of the port, over 400,000 tons of goods were handled from and to the railroad.
