Detlef Tewes (born November 21, 1960 in Essen ) is a German mandolin player of classical and new music.

He completed his studies in 1989 at the Cologne University of Music at the Institut Wuppertal with the concert exam mandolin.

Detlef Tewes has performed in over 2000 performances worldwide under conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Pierre Boulez , Friedrich Cerha , James Levine , Lorin Maazel , Kent Nagano , Simon Rattle and Frank Zappa and in orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker , Il Giardino Armonico / Milano, Ensemble Modern / Frankfurt, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Munich Philharmonic, the Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne, the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Inter Contemporain / Paris, the Elision Ensemble / Melbourne, the Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic and participated in the Klangforum Wien .

Detlef Tewes' solo activity is documented in numerous radio, television and CD productions. He has made over 30 CD recordings with, among others, Boris Björn Bagger (guitar), Otto Freudenthal (piano), Zappa / Ensemble Modern and the Hessischer Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra.

Tewes is also the conductor of various plucked orchestras. He currently heads the Mandolin Concert Society Wuppertal e. V. and the Mandolin Orchestra Bayer Leverkusen e. V.

As a lecturer, he is regularly involved in the training and further education of conductors of the Bund Deutscher Zupfmusiker e. V. active.

Awards

In 1979 Detlef Tewes was the first federal prize winner of the Jugend musiziert competition in age group IV and the city of Essen's cultural prize winner . In 1983 he was awarded the 28th national selection of young artists "Podium Junge Solisten".

Sheet music editions

Detlef Tewes has arranged numerous musical works for mandolin and plucked orchestra. This resulted in well over 200 editions of music, for example by Bach and Mozart.
