life and work

Detlef Winter was born on April 4, 1929 in Leipzig. From 1943 he completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer. From 1947 he attended the Werkkunstschule Hannover and then the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart . Here he was also a student in Willi Baumeister's master class . In the 1960s, Winter moved to Switzerland and worked there for stages, wallpaper producers and fashion manufacturers. In the 1970s, Winter taught at a Swiss grammar school and as a lithographer and museum educator from 1983 to 1994 at the Swiss Paper Museum “ Basler Papiermühle ”. In 1999 he returned to Germany and settled near Naumburg and began to travel.

From 2001 to 2010, Detlef Winter maintained his last studio after Switzerland in Naumburg an der Saale in Central Germany; He went on long journeys until 2006.

Detlef Winter died on September 11, 2010 in Naumburg.

In Detlef Winter's work, according to the 2011 exhibition catalog of the Kunsthalle, “the non-objective and the objective stand side by side. Impressionist moods and the associated colors are particularly close to him. In addition, artistic encounters that he experienced on his many study trips in Europe and beyond are reflected. His diverse work as a lithographer, theater prophet, stage designer and art and museum educator is certainly also the background for the various artistic influences that are articulated in his interesting work ”.
