Detmar Kurig

Detmar Kurig (* 1966 in Geilenkirchen ) is a German double bass player and university professor.

After finishing school, Detmar Kurig studied double bass at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts , the Berlin University of the Arts and the Arnhem Academy of the Arts . He was a master student of Ludwig Streicher and Gary Karr .

In the period that followed, Kurig joined the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne as a double bass player and was solo bassist with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra for five years . From 2001 to 2011 Kurig was a member of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg .

Since 2000, Kurig has also been heard increasingly as a soloist. He has given over 100 concerts in Europe and Japan, especially with the Japanese pianist Tomone Yazaki. Kurig has also made four CD recordings with her so far. He prefers to take part in projects with improvised music and has recorded CDs with the bassist Glen Moore . In addition, he has received invitations to perform as a soloist, for example with the Rhenish Chamber Orchestra and the Dortmund Chamber Orchestra.

After Kurig had already taken on his first teaching activities during his studies at the Dortmund department of the Detmold University of Music , he received a teaching position at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (Aachen location) in 1997 , where he was also appointed professor in 2003. In addition, Kurig has been a professor at the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf since 2007 , and has also been a professor at the Trossingen University of Music since 2011 .
