Deut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Deut (Dutch duit ) was a copper coin that was in circulation in Geldern , Kleve and the Netherlands in the 17th and 18th centuries . It was minted until 1816 and had the value of 2 Penningen = 1/8 Stüber = 1/160 Gulden = 1 1/12 German Pfennig . She was also defeated for the overseas holdings in East India and Cape Town .

The Dutch idiom Ik geef er geen 'koperen duit voor (as much as: I don't give a copper German word for it ) spread in the German-speaking world in the 18th century and was used as no one or no one to mean nothing or to express nothing at all . Etymologically , the words Deut and duit are derived from the Old Norse thveit , which means something like small coin , but literally means cut piece (thveita = to cut off).

The coin was in circulation in the Netherlands until 1816 and in Dutch East India until 1854.
