German-Polish government commission

Founded in accordance with Article 12 of the Treaty between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Poland on good neighbors and friendly cooperation on June 17, 1991, the German-Polish government commission for regional and border cooperation met for the first time in 1991. Its meetings take place once a year under the German and Polish co-chairs.

Your tasks are to maintain contacts and cooperation between regional, municipal and other institutions and to stimulate further initiatives.

Members of the commission on the German side are the Foreign Office and representatives from other federal ministries and from the federal states, whose tasks include regional and cross-border cooperation. The Polish side is represented by the Ministry of the Interior and representatives from the government and voivodeships . The four Euroregions that have existed since 1991 are also participating . The main goal of these bilateral ( Euroregion Spree-Neisse-Bober , Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina ) or trilateral ( Euroregion Pomerania : Germany, Poland, Sweden; Euroregion Neisse : Germany, Poland, Czech Republic) Euroregions is to reduce the structural and location disadvantages resulting from the border location to balance together with the partners across the border.

The EU Commission can also send participants to the meetings. As part of European Territorial Cooperation (ETZ ; INTERREG VA in the 2014–2020 funding period), the European Union funds projects in the German-Polish border region and thus makes its contribution to cooperation in the border region.
