The Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina is located on the German-Polish border. The aim is to promote partnership and cross-border cooperation between these regions. The Polish side of the Euroregion comprises a total of 27 districts in the northern part of the Lubusz Voivodeship . On the German side, the districts of Märkisch-Oderland and Oder-Spree and the independent city of Frankfurt (Oder) are involved.

The total area of ​​the Polish side of the Euroregion is 5,737 km², the area of ​​the German side is 4,518 km², a total of 10,255 km². 823,827 inhabitants live in the area, the population density is 80 inhabitants / km².

founding

The Euroregion Pro Europa was founded in 1993. The first development and action concept formed both the basis for the establishment of the Euroregion itself and a basis for the use of the European funding from the INTERREG II and PHARE CBC programs . With Poland's accession to the European Union, the Euroregion now benefits from funds from a single funding pool, currently INTERREG IV A (funding period 2007–2013).

The Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina should show a way for future common development. Since the founding of the Euroregion, a network of cross-border contacts has grown and projects have been implemented. The aim of the cooperation is still to support and create a common regional identity and to strengthen the economic power of the border region.

Goals of the Euroregion

The aim is to promote cross-border cooperation as partners. In detail these are

  • Promotion of regional identity and the European idea: Promotion of German-Polish events and encounters in the fields of education , culture , social affairs and sport ; Events and actions to promote the European idea; Euroregional institutions and meeting places; Language skills; intermunicipal cooperation.
  • Tourism as a growth factor: establishment of a joint professional regional tourism marketing organization; Completion of the tourist route network and accompanying measures; Development of tourist brands and highlights; Development of tourism focus potential.
  • Common infrastructure and protection of the environment : creation of cross-border transport links; Cross-border urban and community development and spatial planning; Connection of companies to the cross-border traffic routes; Supply and disposal facilities (drinking water, sewage, energy, waste management); Cross-border civil protection ; Cooperation and networking of regional environmental organizations.
  • Developing entrepreneurship and SMEs : promoting cross-border business cooperation ( internationalization ); Qualification of employees and employers; Cooperation in science and research , innovation and technology promotion ; Stimulation of cooperation in vocational training; Strengthening of the branch competence in border areas and location marketing.

organization

The Euroregion is supported on the German side by the Verein Mittlere Oder eV and on the Polish side by the Association of Polish Municipalities of the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina . The most important organs of the Euroregion are:

  • The council: it consists of 20 members (10 Germans and 10 Polish) and is the highest decision-making body in the Euroregion.
  • The Presidium: it is elected by the Council and consists of two German and two Polish members. The task of the Presidium is to represent the Euroregion externally.
  • The secretariat: it is managed by the offices in Frankfurt (Oder) and Gorzów Wlkp. educated. They manage the day-to-day business and coordinate the work of the working groups.
  • The working groups: they are appointed by the Presidium and develop proposals for joint projects in the respective areas (project management, tourism and business).

Members

The structure of the Euroregion has expanded considerably since its inception. In 2008 it comprised 46 members from Poland and Germany .
