history

The German Waste Management Library was founded in November 2010 on the premises of HIM GmbH in Biebesheim am Rhein . When the former institute library of the chair for environmental technology of Professor Werner Bidlingmaier in Weimar was threatened with being transferred to the waste paper collection, committed actors in waste management came together to found a library association. The peculiarity of the book inventory threatened by destruction in Weimar was not only due to the extensive conglomerate of diploma and master's theses as well as dissertations, but rather in the fact that the library in a certain way reflects the history of waste science in the German-speaking countries over the past 70 years. The foundation of this library was formed by Otto Jaag's first collection in Switzerland, which was primarily concerned with composting and melioration . Then the library moved to Arnold von Hirschheydt to the Institute for Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Waste Management at the University of Stuttgart , which in Germany formed a core cell for the modern scientific development of the topic of waste. After the head of the institute there retired, Dr. Werner Bidlingmaier took over the book inventory and systematically expanded it in the field of environmental technology and recycling as well as waste incineration . Initially, the books were at the chair for waste management at the comprehensive university in Essen . When Werner Bidlingmaier was appointed to the chair for waste management at the Bauhaus University Weimar , the books finally came to Weimar. After the library association was founded, the following year, with the support of a traditional waste disposal company, the approx. Organize 10,000 books to Iserlohn. Since the SASE moved into the premises, DABib has established itself as the first point of contact for the submission of books and other written documents from the waste management sector, thus ensuring that the experience and written knowledge of the waste industry is not irretrievably lost.
