Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Specialty Steel GmbH & Co. KG , headquartered in Witten, is a company that manufactures and processes long stainless steel products . It includes the Witten, Siegen , Krefeld , Hagen and Hattingen locations, where around 4,000 employees produce and process almost one million tons of stainless steel annually. The steelworks are equipped with 130 t UHP arc furnaces and vertical continuous casters or circular arc systems. There are also rolling mills , forges and bright steel plants for the production of wire and bar steel.

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke is part of the Schmolz + Bickenbach Group.

history

In 2007, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH was created from the merger of the companies Edelstahl Witten-Krefeld and Edelstahlwerke Südwestfalen. The company Edelstahl Witten-Krefeld was founded in 1994, the Edelstahlwerke Südwestfalen in 2004. The main plants were established in the middle of the 19th century.

Since December 2016, the company has been divided into the three divisions Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Specialty Steel GmbH & Co. KG (production), Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Sales GmbH & Co. KG (sales) and Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Services GmbH (administration).

The product range of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke extends from drawn wire with a diameter of 0.8 mm to forged products with a diameter of up to 1,100 mm. The company produces tool steels , structural and roller bearing steels, rust-, acid- and heat-resistant steels ( RSH steels ) as well as the special material Ferro-Titanit . This is a hard material produced by powder metallurgy .

In the operations of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, a long forging machine as well as straightening and processing units are available for the production of mandrel bars up to 30 meters long. Cold rolling is another of the company's finished products. Chrome steels (2-3% chrome to 7-12% chrome) are used for production, which go through smelting metallurgical processes such as the electro-slag remelting process (ESR) or the arc vacuum remelting (LBV). Special materials have been developed by Deutsche Edelstahlwerke and their predecessor companies since the 1980s and are used, among other things, for ballistic protection of the bodies of VIP limousines.

The German steel works Karrierewerkstatt GmbH (proper spelling: German steel works Karrierewerkstatt GmbH ) was founded in 2008 as a subsidiary of the German steel works and offers a variety of educational programs for companies. The offers of the career workshop include initial vocational training, vocational retraining, preparation for external exams, special programs and training from the annual qualification program. In 2012, she expanded her training area with the commissioning of the chassis, a training hall that serves to qualify employees and external participants for in-house transport.

The career workshop currently has three locations in North Rhine-Westphalia: Witten (headquarters), Siegen and Hagen, and Krefeld as the education coordinator. The career workshop is certified by the CERTQUA testing committee for the quality management system in the field of training and further education.

The subsidiary Deutsche Edelstahlwerke Härterei Technik GmbH has branches in Stuttgart and Lüdenscheid . In the hardening shops, tools manufactured in customer companies are hardened or surface- treated in vacuum, inert gas and pulse plasma systems. Tempering , aging , stress relieving and normalizing are carried out in the chamber furnaces .
