The German Agency for Skilled Workers for Health and Nursing Professions ( DeFa ) is a state-sponsored company based in Saarbrücken . It is intended to accelerate immigration procedures on the part of German authorities for nurses who have been recruited from abroad by private recruitment companies, hospitals and nursing homes. The aim is that foreign nurses can enter Germany three months after their visa application , whereby the German diplomatic missions abroad continue to decide on the visa application.

Other tasks of the agency include a. mediation between applicants and employers, support with procedures in authorities, accreditation and monitoring of compliance with social standards as well as help with integration on site.

The Saarland founded the DeFa in "close coordination" with the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) in October 2019; the federal subsidy amounted to 4.7 million euros.
