German Society for Archeology of the Middle Ages and Modern Times

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Society for Archeology of the Middle Ages and Modern Times eV (DGAMN) is an association of scientists who are engaged in archaeological research on the Middle Ages and modern times at universities, in the preservation of monuments , at museums or on a freelance basis . It sees itself as a specialist forum but also as a lobbyist towards politics and the public.

The German Society strives to:

  • Exchange of information from the field of archeology of the Middle Ages and modern times.
  • Promote communication among members
  • Maintaining contact with relevant associations at home and abroad

The society publishes the "Messages of the German Society for Archeology of the Middle Ages and Modern Times", which have meanwhile developed into an important specialist journal. They appear annually and contain reports on the meetings and conventions of the Society, articles or abstracts of the lectures, news, reports from archaeological meetings and working groups, references to new publications and book reviews.

The society was founded on January 19, 2001 in Paderborn and emerged from the "Working Group for Archeology of the Middle Ages", which has existed since 1973 in the German antiquity associations. As a rule, it holds its annual conference at one of the German antiquity research associations and deals with current research topics.
