Career as a player

Career as a manager

From 2000 to 2002 Bornemann directed the Freiburg football school. Under his aegis, the old Möslestadion was converted into a modern young talent center for an investment of 12 million euros. On February 21, 2002 he succeeded the outgoing manager Andreas Rettig , who then went to 1. FC Köln . At the end of the season, 1. FC Köln relegated to the second Bundesliga, where Bornemann remained manager from then on. After coach Volker Finke was dismissed, he was replaced by Dirk Dufner in June 2007 . He then succeeded Jörg Schmadtke on January 3, 2009 at Alemannia Aachen as sports director until the Supervisory Board gave him leave on November 29, 2009.

Bornemann became sports director of Holstein Kiel on February 2, 2010 and held this job until the summer of 2014. On May 21, 2014, the second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth announced Bornemann's engagement as sports director. However, SpVgg Greuther Fürth announced on June 27, 2014 that Bornemann could not take up the job for private reasons. Later it became known through media reports, triggered by statements by Bornemann, that Bornemann had already been working at Fürth since June 1 in preparation for his new role, but resigned his hat after three weeks due to differences with the executive committee.

On September 21, 2015, 1. FC Nürnberg announced that Andreas Bornemann would succeed Martin Bader as Director of Sport. There he was dismissed in February 2019 for defying the supervisory board. At this point in time, 1. FC Nürnberg was in 18th place in the table.

On July 1, 2019, Bornemann will become the sports director of the second division club FC St. Pauli .
