The German Society for Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Depth Psychology (DGPT) is a professional association of psychoanalysts in Germany. The purpose is the maintenance, further development and dissemination of psychoanalysis in research, teaching and care as well as the promotion of the application of psychoanalysis in psychotherapy and psychosomatics. The DGPT sees itself as a professional association of German psychological and medical psychoanalysts as well as an umbrella organization of the professional societies and institutes affiliated to it. She is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies . The company's headquarters and offices are in Berlin.

history

In 1949 the German Society for Psychotherapy and Depth Psychology was founded. The purpose was to create a professional political and scientific forum for all psychoanalysts. In addition to the creation of common training standards at the clinics, recognition of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in university research and teaching as well as general medical care for the population was sought and achieved. In 1958, the additional designation psychotherapy and in 1971 the recognition of psychotherapeutic services by psychologists in the health care system was achieved. The history of the DGPT has been worked up in detail by the psychoanalyst Regine Lockot.

organization

The DGPT is the umbrella company for the German Society for Analytical Psychology , the German Psychoanalytic Society , the German Psychoanalytical Association and the German Society for Individual Psychology as well as for 18 independent training and further education institutes. In addition, the DGPT is organized in 16 regional associations. Another 56 member institutes are organized in these. The DGPT divides its individual members into the section of the professional association of medical psychoanalysts (BÄP) and the section of the professional association of psychological psychoanalysts (BPP). These work as independently acting sub-organizations in coordination with the other as a professional representative organization. On its website, the DGPT provides an organization chart that provides an overview of the association's structure, purpose and tasks.

activity

The DGPT promotes research and training in the field of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. It has organized an annual specialist congress at different locations since 1965. Since 2002 the DGPT has regularly published a newsletter about current research results as well as current discussions and developments in the field.
