Johann Waldemar current ( Russian Иван Васильевич Штром / Ukrainian Іван Васильович Штром , January 30 * . Jul / 11. February  1825 greg. , † December 18 jul. / 30th December  1887 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a German-born Russian architect .

Electricity came from a poor family. He studied at the Russian Art Academy in Saint Petersburg and built, among other things, Orthodox church buildings in Germany and Athens. Between 1858 and 1861 he oversaw the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris .

He was also successful in the Ukrainian capital Kiev . His most famous buildings there are the St. Katharinen Church , which is still preserved today , which he built from 1855 to 1857 together with the architect Paul Schleifer for the German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Kiev , the "Building of the Vladimir of Kiev Cadet Corps" on the Powitroflotskyj prospectus no. 6, which he built from 1849 to 1857 and now houses the in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is, and the complex of buildings on the Wolodymyrska street 15, in which are also state today authorities. He was also involved in the planning of the Vladimir Cathedral in Kiev.

Strom received the Order of St. Vladimir 3rd degree. In 1862 he became an honorary member of the Russian Art Academy in Saint Petersburg and in 1866 he became professor of architecture there. Before his death he was the chief architect at St. Isaac's Cathedral in Saint Petersburg.
