Paul Grinder ( Russian Павел Иванович Шлейфер ; born June 17 . Jul / 29. June  1814 greg. In Kiev , Russian Empire ; † 24. April 1879 ) was a German-Russian artist and architect and the father of George grinder .

Life

Paul Schleifer was born in Kiev in 1814 to a family of German descent. After graduating from school in 1830, he left Kiev and worked in the Foreign Trade Office in Saint Petersburg . In parallel to his work, he studied at the Russian Art Academy from 1836 to 1839 . After that he devoted himself mainly to painting and returned to Kiev in 1846, where he taught at the Kiev Institute for Noble Virgins .

He was married to Karolina, born in 1849. Schnauffert. The couple had seven children, three sons and four daughters. The son Georg Schleifer (1855–1913) was also a well-known Kiev architect. In 1859 he went on a scientific trip to Germany and Belgium. Schleifer died in Kiev and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .

His best-known building is the St. Catherine's Church , which is still preserved today and which he built from 1855 to 1857 together with the German architect Johann Waldemar Strom for the German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Kiev . His most famous painting is a portrait of his wife, which is exhibited as a portrait of the wife in the National Museum of Art of Ukraine in Kiev.
