from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Initiative for Network Information e. V., DINI for short , is a registered association that was founded on March 18, 2002 in Göttingen . The seat is there. The main focus of the activity is the promotion of electronic publishing in Open Access , learning software and media competence at universities. The first meetings on these topics took place in autumn 1991. Among other things, DINI certifies document servers .

DINI was founded as an initiative of three organizations, the Working Group of Media Centers at Universities (AMH), the German Library Association Section 4: Scientific Universal Libraries ( dbv ) and the Centers for Communication and Information Processing in Teaching and Research ( ZKI ).

aims

The aim of the initiative is to create an international standard for the publication of scientific documents on document servers. This should enable the networking of repositories through mutually compatible interfaces, improve the visibility and findability of the documents and thus improve the communication process among scientists and for the interested public. An important instrument in this context is the DINI certificate, which the operator of a document server can endeavor to obtain.

DINI certificate

In order to be DINI-certified, the repository must meet minimum requirements. The main criteria for which detailed requirements are formulated include

  • Visibility of the entire offer
  • Guidelines (Policy)
  • Support for authors and editors
  • Legal Aspects
  • Information security
  • Development and interfaces
  • Open metrics (usage statistics)
  • Long-term archiving

An institution that tries to get a repository certified must first prepare the certificate text with the criteria mentioned and provide it with examples. An online questionnaire is then completed to submit an application. In the last step, the application is assessed by two experts appointed by the DINI office and, if the decision is positive, the DINI certificate is issued, if necessary, subject to conditions.

The DINI certificate 2019 was presented at the DINI annual conference 8. – 9. Published October 2019.
