Peter Schirmbacher

Peter Schirmbacher (* 1951 ) is a German computer scientist. He was Professor of Information Management at the Institute for Library and Information Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Until 2015 he was director of the computer and media service at Humboldt University.

Career

The economics graduate Peter Schirmbacher completed his studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin (HUB) in the years 1970–1974. He then worked at the computer center (now computer and media service) of the HUB and the Academy of Sciences (GDR). In 1989 he received his doctorate in the field of applied computer science with the dissertation “The structure and principles of the design of computer-aided management information systems at universities and colleges”. From 1990 to 2015 he was head of the computer and media service and has been Professor of Information Management at the Institute for Library and Information Science at the HUB since 2006.

Schirmbacher became known through projects in the fields of electronic publishing and digital long-term archiving .
