nestor (archiving network)

nestor (Network of Expertise in long-term Storage and availability of digital Resources in Germany) is a German network for long-term archiving and long-term availability of digital resources. It unites experts with the cooperation partners, namely libraries , museums and archives . After two project phases in which nestor was funded by the Ministry of Education and Research, the cooperation network has been supported by the cooperation partners since July 2009.

Focus of nestor

nestor networks different institutions that deal with the long-term archiving of digital data. As a German competence network, nestor cooperates with European partners. Standardization activities are bundled and brought into the respective communities. Together with universities, nestor develops training, further education and training offers in the field of long-term digital archiving. The focal points and activities are conveyed through workshops and other events as well as through publications such as the nestor handbook, the nestor expertise and the nestor advisors. Furthermore, nestor serves as a contact point and information platform for questions about digital long-term archiving.
